Member of SAHR Coalition of Afghan Legal Experts for Human Rights
Maria Karimzad is currently, since 2019, a senior government official at the Ministry of Finance in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Additionally, since 2021, she is a law lecturer at the German University for Applied Sciences - Public Administration and Finance Ludwigsburg, Germany.
She holds her 1st State Exam, graduating from the Eberhard-Karls-University in Tübingen, and her 2nd State Exam, completing her two-year legal clerkship at the Regional Appellate Court of Stuttgart, Germany.
At the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Law in Heidelberg she was a research fellow focusing on legal matters concerning Afghanistan as well as international human rights and humanitarian law.
From 2014 until 2019 she served as a legal advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan as well as the Ministry of Finance of Afghanistan in Kabul, both in her capacity as a consultant for the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the World Bank.
